Isox



COMPOSITION
Each tablet contains
Isoxsuprene HCl      10mg

INTRODUCTION:
Isox contains Isoxsuprine an adrenaline derivative vasodilators tocolytic drug.

PHARMACODYNAMIC
Isoxsuprine is a - receptor antagonist, b-adrenergic agonist that causes direct relaxation of uterine and vascular smooth muscle. Its vasodilating actions are greater on the arteries supplying skeletal muscle than on those supplying skin. It is used in the treatment of peripheral vascular disease and in premature labour. Isoxsuprine also produces positive inotropic and positive chronotropic effects.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Isoxsuprine is well absorbed from the GI tract. The peak plasma concentration occurs about 1 hour after oral administration. Plasma half life is about 1.5 hour and is excreted in the urine mainly as conjugates. Isoxsuprine inhibits uterine contraction.

INDICATION:
1)       premature labors
2)       habitual abortion
3)       threatened abortion
4)       night leg cramp ( co-prescribe with tranquilo sedative drugs like diazepam. Isox enhance proper circulation.)
         ( 2 tablets QID for 7-10days followed by 1 tablet TID upto 2-3 weeks)

5)       intermittent claudication

 DOSAGE:
 Initially loading dose 2 tabs 3-4 times daily for 3 weeks followed by 1 tsb 3 times continues till delivery.

ADVERSE EFFECT: Isoxsuprine may cause trasient flushing, hypotension, tachycardia, rashes, gastrointestinal disturbances. Maternal pulmonary oedema and fetal tachycardia have been reported following IV administration in premature labour.

PRECAUTION
In women being treated for premature labour, the risk of pulmonary oedema needs to be calculated.

CONTRAINDICATION:
After recent arterial haemorrhage, immediately after post partum, premature labour with infection.
