Fit

Description:
FIT is a combination of antioxidant vitamins in adequate concentration. FIT reduces oxidative stress and blocks the harmful effects of free radicals. It thus helps in reducing the progression of many degenerative diseases. FIT is a prophylactic preparation meant to be taken regularly. Various ingredients in FIT act synergically to produce total protection from free radical damage.

Composition:

Each Capsules of Fit contains:
Beta – Carotene                       USP          10mg
Vitamin A                               USP        5000 IU
Vitamin C                                BP           150mg
Vitamin E                                USP           25 IU

Clinical Pharmacology:

Beta – Carotene: This is a precursor of vitamin A, also termed as pro-vitamin A. It is a lipid soluble vitamin. It functions as an antioxidant because of its ability to quench singlet oxygen and terminate lipid peroxidation chain.

Vitamin A: Vitamin A (Retinol Acetate) has antioxidant activity with a role in protecting against free radical damage, which contributes to many common diseases.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C is also known as Ascorbic Acid. Vitamin C is an ideal electron donor and can reduce superoxide, hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorous acid and other reactive oxidants. Vitamin C prevents LDL oxidation and helps in the regeneration of tocophyeryl radicals in membrane.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is the most powerful, hydrophobic, chainbreaking antioxidant found in the lipid fraction of living organisms. Its main function is to protect the lipid material of an organism from oxidation. Vitamin E helps to maintain the structural and functional integrity of all cells. It protects critical cellular structures against damage from free radicals. This happens by inhibiting the oxidation of Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and competing with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for reacting with peroxyl radical.

Indication:
FIT is indicated in a wide variety of conditions. FIT is indicated as an adjuvant in the management of the following.
Cardio vascular disorders
R  Atherosclerosis                      R Post coronary artery bypass
R  Post angioplasty    R  Ischaemia – reperfusion injury
R  Hypertension         R  Myocardial infarction

Metabolic disorders:   R Diabetes Mellitus

Inflammatory disorders: R   Rheumatoid arthritis
                                         R   Inflammatory bowel disease
                                         R   Pancreatitis

Oncology (Cancer):   R   Precancerous stages e.g. leucoplakia
R   Cancer of lungs, uterus, breast etc.

Neurological disease      R   Parkinson’s disease
R  Alzheimer’s disease
R  Degenerative disorders

Ocular disease               R   Cataract
                                        R   Senile macular degeneration
R               Retrolental fibroplasias

Dermatology          R   Photoageing
                                R   Radiation reaction

FIT can also be used as a prophylaxis to delay ageing process.

Dosage: The usual dose is one capsule per day. The duration of therapy can vary from several months to years.

Contraindications & Precautions: There appear to be no contraindications to Fit therapy as these are nutrients. However, Fit should be used with caution in patients with hypervitaminoses or with advanced hepatic dysfunction and / or jaundice.

Side – effects: Fit when taken in prescribed dosage has no specific type of side effects. However, its consumption in excess may show evidence of hypervitaminoses A and hypercarotenemia. These patients may then develop nausea, vomiting, headache and elevated levels of the liver enzymes.
