Glucosamine Sulphate Potassium
Chloride 844.5mg equivalent to
Glucosamine base 500mg
DESCRIPTION
Glucosamine is the combination
of a protein & sugar and is substance that occurs naturally in the
connective tissues & cartilage joints.
PHARMACODYNAMICS

Glucosamine play
role in the promotion and maintenance of the structure and function of
cartilage in the joints of the body.

It has number of
effects including its anti-inflammatory activity.

The stimulation
of synthesis of proteoglycans and
decrease the catabolic activity of chondrocytes inhibiting the synthesis of the
proteolytic enzyme and other substances that contributes to damage cartilage
matrix and causes death of articular chondrocytes.

It provided the
building blocks needed for to body to repair and make cartilage. It also make
lubricated and maintain the cartilage tissue.
PHARMACOKINTICS

Glucosamine is
Bio-available both systematically and at the site of action (the joints) after
oral administration the glucosamine concentration plasma and synovial fluid
were correlated

About 90% of
Glucosamine administered orally gets absorbed from the small intestine.

Glucosamine in the
cartilage within 4 hrs therein it is first converted to N-acetylglucoamine
which serves as saccharides domain to proteolyticglycon.

It is excreted
through the exhaled air, urine and faeces.
INDICATIONS
Glucosamine
has been used for the treatment of arthritis, osteoarthritis, Bone and Joint
injuries.
DOSAGE
The
usual recommended dose of “ALSOMIN” is
500mg TID for three months. It takes at least 6 weeks before effect may be
apparent but should not be used for more than 6 months.
SIDE EFFECTS
Upset
stomach, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, headache, drowsiness,may
occurs. No allergic reaction have been reported.
CAUTION
-
Glucosamine may
increase insulin resistance those with type-II diabetes mellitus, over weight
and have problem with glucose tolerance should have their blood sugar.

Because of
insufficient safety data, children, pregnancy women and nursing mothers should
avoid using Glucosamine.

Limit alcohol
intake as it may intensify the possible drowsiness effect of this product.

Caution is
advising when requiring alertness( e.g. driving)
DRUG INTERACTION
Glucosamine increases insulin
resistance and consequently affect glucose tolerance diabetics who under
medical advice decide to use Glucosamine supplement will need to monitor their
blood glucose and may need to adjust the dose.
